Oregon State won back-to-back National Championships in 2006 and 2007.

I like the Tanner Robles pick. He was considered a late first/early second round talent out of high school.

    He posted a 3.43 ERA and 28 BB/75 K in 76 IP this season.

Re: The Official Second Day Draft Thread - 2010

10th round selection Kevin Arico, is one of the best college closers and is on his way to a NCAA super region due to his 3 2/3 inning performance yesterday. Longest outing in his career to seal the victory.

With that I bid adieu to go get ready for the Strausburg debut tonight. I got to find a place to watch it as I don't get MLB network on ATT Uverse. Anyone in Dayton area going to a bar/restaurant?

Arico was the closer for UVA for the last two years.

A college reliever with good numbers is a solid pick for the 10th-round. Just speaking generally, nothing for or against Arico.

BA blog: "And two highly-recruited players whose careers at Oregon State never lived up to expectations went at picks 277 and 280. AT 277, the Reds took lefty Tanner Robles, while three spots later, the Cubs took hard-throwing, bad-makeup righty closer Kevin Rhoderick. If Rhoderick matures, he could be a fine value in the ninth round, as it was a top-five rounds arm."

Anyone know anything about Arico's stuff? His numbers have me intrigued and his scouting video shows a breaking ball around 80-81 mph but no fastball.

I really am pretty satisfied so far with the draft. The only pick that is really a head scratcher for me is Lohman in the 3rd round. As some others have noted, the draft is a crapshoot and will take years to play out, but Lohman on the surface does not look like a very good pick.

    87. Virginia JR RHP Kevin Arico: lacks big fastball of traditional closer, but plus 80-84 SL will be serious weapon professionally (2.42 FIP; 13.34 K/9; 1.95 BB/9)

Arico sounds like the kind of guy Chris Buckley might mark for a starter conversion. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't- but I like that you get a guy with experience that doesn't have tons of miles on his arm.

Nice run of arms here lately.

Very glad they took Cisco, but I wonder if he'll sign as a 6th rounder. In the grand tradition of C. Hammond and E. Taubensee, let's hope so.

Hayes is also a closer. Doesn't have the numbers that Arico has (4.25 ERA)

I'd be willing to try Arico in the 'pen this weekend at GABP after what I've been seeing...
