    From that article:

LaMarre said he expects to sit down with Reds officials next week to try and iron out a deal. He's anxious, though, to get his professional career going despite having to wait until the draft's second day to find out where he'd be going.
Looks like LaMarre should be one of the first picks to sign.

I'm guessing he starts in Dayton.

Don't the Reds normally send college kids to Billings?

    From the Reds website:

After a big junior season, he thinks he has the ability to become a five-tool player, with an emphasis on his power and speed.

"We've seen him play extensively through his three years at Michigan," Reds senior director of scouting Chris Buckley said. "We've seen him each spring, each summer, last summer we saw him at the Cape. We were very happy he was up there at 62 -- a center fielder, very good tools, outstanding runner. We were happy to get him."

I think college position players that are drafted in the first two rounds usually start at Dayton, especially those that come from big time programs. Alsonso started in Sarasota, Cozart started in Dayton IIRC. Especially with Yorman starting in Billings, I see no reason why LaMarre wouldn't start at Dayton if not Lynchburg, especially if he signs soon.

What will be interesting to see is where Grandal will start, especially if he signs before the deadline (which I'm skeptical of).

I like the kids with work ethic who also have good talent, sounds like one of the better picks of the draft for the Reds. Just as a side note I know a lot of people are trying to gauge his speed. He seems to have plenty of it but because of a bit of a long stride his initial explosion isn't the greatest. Thanks to my guy Lark over at Redlegs blog for that tidbit. If he can just curb that aggression at the plate some he should be a solid major leaguer. If not he could become the next Darnell McDonald.

Johnny (New York City): What's Ryan LaMarre's ceiling? People were thinking he might go late first round. With the Reds getting Grandal at 12 (after his being rumored at 4) and LaMarre in the 2nd round, that's gotta be considered a win for them in a weak draft, right?

Jim Callis: Yes. I love LaMarre. Chance to be a five-tool center fielder, great makeup, great pick. I would have popped him late in the first round.

    Re: Ryan LaMarre

He's a little faster than I expected. Went from first to third on a single to right-center that few players in the organization could have matched. Quite a bit faster than Fellhauer.

Just 2 games in, and he's got 3 stolen bases already.
