Ouch, that is another reason why it was important to win the series from the Royals. The Reds could play well and still lose to Lee and Hernandez.

Somehow you've missed the fact that Lee and Hernandez aren't winning games on a regular basis.

Yeah, I love how people write good pitchers off, who have bad teams behind them.

    Yep.

Now the Reds may win one or even both of those games. But both Felix Hernandez and Cliff Lee are much more consistent and top of the rotation or ace type starters than any one the Reds will run out there.

Bronson can pitch a real gem or a real clunker. Overall he'll have more good performances than bad, but he is what he is when it's all said and done.. a better than average pitcher but no ace.

Harang... well we all know about Harang.

Cueto has ace stuff but only occasional runs and stretches of ace results.

Bailey, who's not even healthy or in the rotation, is in the same boat as Cueto.

    LeCure? 4 big league starts

Leake comes the closest on this staff, and he has 12 big league starts.

I like the ability and potential of most if not all our guys to pitch a good game, but we don't always get the results.

The only thing that balances it out a bit is just how bad the Mariners offense is. In the American League, only the Orioles score fewer runs per game, only the White Sox have fewer hits, no one has fewer home runs, only Toronto has a lower batting average, only Toronto and Baltimore have lower OBP's, no one has a lower slugging percentage, and no one has a lower OPS.

They are about middle of the pack in the American League in drawing walks, so if the Reds pitchers don't give them any free passes, or many free passes, they should be able to handle them. There's no reason not to pound the strike zone against that team.

    Mariners can't close games.

    Mariners can't hit the ball.

Even in the King Felix and Cliff Lee games, the Mariners might be able to stay with us for 7 innings, maybe even 8 innings, but they can't stay with us for 9 or more innings.

Why do the Reds have to play Seattle, Oakland, or KC? I can't see any good reason for it. Interleague baseball...ugh. It should only be six games against the Indians.
