    A Daryl Thompson sighting.

He reminds of an old car you keep working on something different, and others are always surprised every that it continues to run.

Not only does it run, it purrs as you drive it around casually on city streets. Onlookers remark about its performance, but then you try to take it up to 70 on the highway and you're left calling a tow truck a minute later.
"He looked like a surfer kid from SoCal," manager Dusty Baker says. "He didn't say much, but you could tell he was cool."

Good athlete, solid tools across the board. Capable of playing all three outfield positions. I'm surprised he didn't start the season in Billings after impressing in the GCL last season.

    Here's a scouting report from Lark11:

That Billings roster is stacked with talent and potential. It's going to be a fun group to watch.

    From the Billings Gazette:

Billy Hamilton put a graceful end to a thrilling night for the Billings Mustangs.

The Mustangs’ shortstop ranged to his right, leapt high, and snagged a line drive to finish off the Great Falls Voyagers in the Pioneer League opener Monday night at Dehler Park.

Hamilton’s fluid play was just the final of many Mustangs’ highlights in the 11-3 win. Playing in front of 3,130 fans, the Mustangs banged 16 hits — six for extra bases — showed some impressive speed, and played flashy defense despite making two errors.
DeShields said Guerrero, as well as pitcher Tzu-Kai Chiu are both in Billings on 30-day injury rehab assignments. They could both be gone before the 30 days are up, however.

Great to see all the offense from the rookie league teams on opening night. It appears they're trying to form a core, high-ceiling team at Billings that will move through the system together, similar to the group that's in Louisville now. We'll see what kind of pitching joins them (Jacob Johnson, Cline, Tuttle are the lead guys now).

I truly believe the only untouchable players in the Reds system are Chapman and Yorman Rodriguez.

Agree completely. However, I wouldn't be surprised if that team struggled more than we would like to see. A lot of the players are very young and unpolished and have not yet sustained any success as professionals. Juan Duran, for instance, for all his celebrated potential, has struggled mightily since day one.

That, to me, is why the result of the opener was so cool. For at least one night, potential met performance.

Hamilton's leap was almost cartoonish - that kid has some athleticism.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

No kidding. He looked weightless. If he can play that position, look out.

Does anyone know if he's switch-hitting? The listings I saw still had him as hitting righty.
