Okay, I like that Dusty moved Brandon to the leadoff slot. He seems to be the best fit the way our club is currently configured. But when, oh when, is he going to give Cabrera some much needed time on the freaking bench?
21 for his last 117 (.179 ba)
9 doubles, 0 HR's, 0 triples, 6 walks, 14 strikeouts
Is there anybody here who doesn't think Paul Janish can put up AT LEAST those numbers? So even if Paul struggled to the tune of a .179 ba, he'd STILL be an improvement due to his glove work. Time to make the switch Dusty. Past time.

I honestly think Cabrera will improve. But I also think Janish is MORE than capable of hitting WELL above Cabrera's current line. I just think it's in the best interest of the club to rest Orlando MUCH more often than they are now and to play Janish MUCH more often than they are now as well. He needs some reps too. If we're not going to play Paul, send him to AAA where he'll get some playing time to prove whether he deserves a legitimate shot or not. Languishing on the bench to the extent that he has thus far is almost cruel and unusual punishment. Especially for someone who was penciled in to be the starter during the off season.

I just don't think there's an ounce of evidence to suggest that Janish would out do even Cabrera's current line. Personally I think it's more likely he'd do well worse.
As for the Reds treating him cruelly I bet if you asked Paul he never wants to see Louisville again. He's almost 28, he's proven everything he can down there
and frankly it wan't all that impressive.
School's out. What did you expect?

Janish's career numbers are almost the same as Cabrera's numbers this year. When you factor in that Janish has improved since his rookie year in 2008, I think there is plenty of evidence to suggest that Janish will do better offensively than Cabrera has done so far this season.
But that is faint praise, and I think it's more than likely that going forward, Cabrera will out hit Janish. Although I doubt he will out hit him enough to justify his defense.
