I wouldn't call it an infatuation or irresponsible at all. The Reds have a legitimate chance this year to contend for a playoff spot. Prospects are nice and all, but the goal is to win at The Show and the easiest way to do that for a small market team (like the Reds) is via trading prospects. Speculation has circled the Reds are trying to make a trade for Cliff Lee. Alonso and Wood seem to be the names that have popped up most.

In the case of Mesoraco, I would really prefer the Reds do not include him in any trade.

Donald Lutz, who has had a nice start to his season, hit a 3-run homer in the seventh to lift Billings to a 4-3 win. Jonathan Kaskow (I wonder if that's pronounced like "cash cow" or "Eddie Kasko") was 3 for 3. Patrick Doyle and Porfirio Martinez struck out 8 in 5 innings of very good relief.

Incidentally, Lutz and Kaskow are both first basemen. It's nice to see the system getting a little production out of that position. With the general exception of Alonso, it's been kind of a black hole in recent seasons.

Another nice night for Billy Hamilton too as he went 2-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base. That's his third consecutive multi-hit game.

When is Hanigan slated to get a start behind the plate? I know he still has slight discomfort, but I imagine it has to be in the next 1 or 2 days.
"He looked like a surfer kid from SoCal," manager Dusty Baker says. "He didn't say much, but you could tell he was cool."

Burton is being given every opportunity to get back to the Majors, but he keeps sabotaging his own chances. He seems healthy. I wonder why he's struggling. He just had 7 straight appearances, I believe where he hadn't given up a run.

Not looking for perfection from him, but the REDS are certainly looking for better than what he's doing.

Based on last year, I'd just say that his stuff has faded. His slider isn't breaking as sharp as it used to.
