10th round pick RHP Kevin Arico made his pro debut tonight with Dayton and threw a 1-2-3 inning with three groundouts.

Federico Baez one out away from a Mudcats win in relief.

Cochran and Baez combine on a two hitter to beat the Suns 6-0. I wish this could be a preview of the second half.

I'm ready to pronounce Mesoraco as having passed the AA test. I view the Grandal signing with less concern each day.

Devin Mesoraco continues to impress - 2-for-4 tonight with his 16th HR (6th in 75 AB with AA Carolina) and also threw out two base stealers. As bad as I want the Reds to add a top of rotation starter, it's getting to the point where it would be very difficult to part with Mesoraco in a trade. After tonight, he's now hitting .280 with an .887 OPS in Double-A, this coming after he posted a 1.035 OPS in High-A.

I'm lost on this infatuation to trade prospects. Mesoraco is a totally undefined talent at this point. Trade talk is irresponsible involving him...and others in this orgainzation.

A top of the line starter is easier to find than a top 5 catcher.....

As impressive as his hitting has been this season, his control of the running game has also been great (especially since minor league pitchers often struggle to hold on runners). Does anyone know what % of basestealers he is throwing out?

I thought I read somewhere a couple days ago that he was throwing out 49% of base stealers, and that number will go up after tonight.

Wood and Volquez are available. Why give away young talent at this point? I'm not interested in a rental at this point.

Eliezer Beard threw six shutout innings (three hits) today for the DSL Reds, who won 8-2. He's 19 and 6-foot-4, 202, with a 1.69 ERA.

After tonight he is throwing out 51% of attempted base runners. He also has a few pick offs on the season, but those aren't an official stat that is kept track of outside of box scores.

Bats lose on a 10th inning- bases loaded walk by Jared Burton.
