Billy Hamilton extends his hitting streak to six games with a single in the second inning. He then stole his third base of the season.

The AZL Reds are underway as Kyle Lotzkar makes the start. Juan Silva tripled in his first atbat.

Interesting to see DRH go 1.2 IP.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Billings pounded out 17 hits and won 7-5. Dayne Read had four of them, Trey Manz three. Joshua Smith struck out the side in an inning of relief. Porfirio Martinez claimed his third save.

Lotzkar turned in his best start so far, by far: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K. Very good news.

Dayton blew a 6-1 and went down 7-6. Kevin Arico took the loss, with a big assist from Blair Carson.

I don't understand how Fisher can do so well in triple A and look completely lost at the major league level. His stuff looks terrible when he's pitching for the Reds.

It's an interesting question. He's always had a great K/9. He gives up around a hit an inning. Most of his numbers in the minors were good. The big difference is when he got to the Show, he started walking an insane number of batters, far worse than his minor leagues were. I don't know if those were jitters or not. He's pitched 50 innings at the Show now.

I think in a perfect world, Fisher could pitch in Cincy and the Reds would let him take his lumps...but with the pennant race heating up, they just can't afford to do it right now as their margin of error is small. I mean, they sent down DRH when he had some struggles and he had proven a lot more than Fisher had. Also, I'm not convinced that Fisher is or will be better than anyone currently with the Reds. I would've said Ondrusek, but even he seems to have found a groove. Jordan Smith is a bit unproven too, but has looked good so far and he doesn't walk batters. Fisher is solid depth though if someone goes down.

I think they kind of undermined his chance to establish himself earlier in the year. After he came up he went real long stretches w/o getting into a game and then when he pitched he wasn't sharp at all. After that he seemed to be feeling his way around and maybe lacked some confidence. I think he'll be a decent major league middle reliever if given the chance and used properly. It probably won't happen in Cincy and he'll end-up as a throw-in in some deal. Some team looking to add pieces for 2011 would be smart to ask for him as that extra guy to put a deal over the top.
