Nationals at Reds July 19-22 Question

A few of my friends and I were planning on seeing Strasburg pitch in Cincinnati this series. I'm assuming the first game after the All Star break will be started by the Ace of the staff. So going by the schedule the Reds would end up facing the 4th, 5th, 1st and 2nd starters in their rotation.

Does anyone know where Stras is in their rotation? (Hopefully not #3!)

And would it be hard to find 3 or 4 seats together if we just buy the tickets at the window? It's been a while since I've been to Cincy and I know the attendence is probably fairly well this year.

I will be at the Tuesday (20th) game with the family. I would love to see Strasburg pitch, but I still hope we miss him, because I would even more love for the Reds to win.

You should be able to get 4 seats together to see Strasburg pitch without a problem, I'm guessing. Attendance still isn't strong during the week, and I'm not even sure they'd hit 30k even during the game that Strasburg pitches.

If you do plan on buying tickets at the window for the Strasburg game, I just might recommend not walking up to the window 15 minutes before first pitch. Walk ups will likely be strong, and the lines would be long, but there would be plenty of tickets available. Get there an hour early if you can, and you should be able to just walk right up.

Re: Nationals at Reds July 19-22 Question

Just breaking down their game logs and based on nothing more than my own logic it appears like so.

#1 - Livan Hernandez - Gotta use the wiley vet there for now right, innings eater at the very least.

#2 - Strasburg - Next best option really.

#3 - J.D. Martin - The oldest pitcher left and one with a bit of experience under his belt plus is currently at least keeping his team in most games he's pitched.

    #4 - Luis Atilano

    #5 - Craig Stammen

Jason Marquis could be back by then (but I doubt it), if so that would make Strasburg the likely #3.

So going by that Stras will either pitch the last game of the series or not at all (if Marquis comes back)

Right but again my logic so who really knows what Riggleman will do. So many potential variables to consider. For example 17 of their next 23 games (after the break) are on the road. If you want to get 2 games out of Strasburg at home (and against divisional rivals) then you would have to pitch him as the #1 starter coming back (which is what I'd do anyhow). In fact breaking down their schedule I'd probably go that route with him. That would mean the 3rd game against us and Livan the 4th, either way it looks like the last 2 games is a fair bet. If he does start their 3rd game however we wouldn't have to see him until '11, which is ok by me anyhow.

If he pitches on Tues. the 20th, the Reds and Budweiser have a nice little promotion going for Tuesdays. 2 field box seats plus 2 vouchers for beers for $22.

the seats are sect. 139 which is right next to the RF foul pole. The ad says its a $78 value for $22.

On Yahoo Sports it lists Stras as their 2nd starter but I'm not sure how accurate Yahoo is on this

I wouldn't assume anything at this point. You should be able to figure it out after the ASB though.

It's tough to peg him, because he will be treated similar to how we are treating Leake to limit his innings. For that reason, he may be considered the #5 just so they can skip him when they need to

Re: Nationals at Reds July 19-22 Question

An equally important question might be what rotation changes Baker/Price could make after the All star break.

Do they stay with Harang, Cueto, Arroyo, Leake, and Wood?

    Is so, in what order?

Who vacates the rotation when Volquez comes back?

Yeah that's another good point that I forgot to bring up. I can't imagine Harang getting the first start after the ASB though

Re: Nationals at Reds July 19-22 Question

Is anyone seeing (hoping for) a connection?

Harang scratched last night with "lower back pains"-

Volquez due to come back soon-

We'd need a starter out of the rotation, and I don't want it to be Leake, Cueto, Arroyo, or Wood near as much as it needs to be Harang...maybe save him the humiliation of being DFA'd (which if I'm correct, is the only way you can send him down now), and put him on the DL instead.

EDIT: And I think the Reds would want to save him from humiliation, because for some reason, they've always worried about being very nice to Harang.

Re: Nationals at Reds July 19-22 Question

I've read on a Nationals blog that they plan on skipping Strasburg's turn right after the break to limit his innings. It was mentioned that he might not even pitch in that 3 game series with Florida, so he'd probably throw against the Reds on the 19th or 20th.

Though I wouldn't put much weight into "some blog".
