(missed this while on vacation)

I was at this game with my dad. I was 12 and 1 year into my fandom with the Reds after the heartbreak of 1964.

The Reds lit up Sandy Koufax pretty well in this game and got out to an early 5-0 lead. Sammy Ellis looked good early but ran out of gas. Billy McCool and Joe Nuxhall weren't quite as good and let LA tie it up at 6-6.

Cardenas was my absolute favorite player at the time (I have no idea why) and hit a homer in the bottom of the 9th to win the game 7-6. I can still remember the ball hitting the LF screen at Crosley Field and the ripples going out through the screen from the impact.

It was the first time I'd ever experienced that at a ballgame and I think I kinda lost my mind for a few minutes. I remember my dad looking at me a little funny like "son, its just a ballgame".
