Reds placed catcher Ramon Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 5, with a sore knee.

Ryan Hanigan will step into Hernandez's spot, so the Reds are still fine behind the plate. If all goes well, Hernandez will return as soon as his 15 days are up.

Hanigan was taking over as the Reds' primary catcher before missing six weeks with a broken thumb. Now that Ramon Hernandez is on the DL, Hanigan will get another chance to improve his standing. Hernandez, though, was playing quite well before hurting his knee.

Given his freshness and not having all season to really get into any kind of groove. I think Corky could perform a fill in role for hanigan every 5th game just as good as ramon for a fraction of the money.

Did you not read my response to your post? We are paying Ramon's salary the rest of the season unless we find some team to unexpectedly take him in a trade. So it doesn't matter if Corky is making less as long as Ramon is here.

You hear that sound? That is your credibility hitting the floor.

You pay these guys no matter what (unless the league suspends them, but that is not the case here). They are guaranteed contracts. Even if the fact you think Corky is better than Ramon isn't bad enough, not even understanding MLB contracts is even worse.

You can't cut payroll by just placing a guy on the DL.

You really need help if you think Corky and Ramon are equal when it comes to the plate. plus Dusty isn't going to play Harigan every day, he leans much more towards Ramon. Corky is a career minor leaguer for a reason...
