Ground out, Strike out, Fly out for Volquez in the 5th.

    5 IP, 0 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 6 Ks.

80 pitches, 44 strikes. Effectively wild Edinson. Seems safe to say his stuff is good but same as always, his control is iffy.

Error by Cozart puts one on, then they wipe the bases clean with a DP.

    Volquez at 90 pitches.

Is he done, or do they stretch him out to 100+?

Larish singles for the first hit of the day off of Volquez and Jeff Frazier pops out to end the inning.

    6 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 6 K

90 pitches, 51 strikes. I figure they'll try to push him to 100 pitches this time out?

They'll send him out there to go for 100 pitches in the 7th.

12 pitches, 10 strikes, 7 swings and misses, 3 swinging strike outs. What a 7th inning!

    7 IP, 1 H, 3 BB, 1 HBP, 9 Ks

102 pitches, 61 strikes. It appears he just got better as the game went on today. I know he'll get one more start, but I'd say he's ready, wouldn't you?

Put me in the group that say Volquez is ready to take his show to the Reds!

I'd like to wait 5 days first and see what the results are of him having thrown 102 pitches in a game for the first time in who knows how long. Let him make his next start in AAA and see what happens. See if he can go 100+ pitches again.
