    Goodbye Baseball, Hello Cooperstown

YouTube - Nike Ken Griffey Jr. - Goodbye Baseball, Hello Cooperstown

    Story Here

And We've touched on it earlier....

And wouldn't it be wild if this commercial is a foreshadowing of Griffey showing up at Tuesday's game for a surprise appearance? Now that would be guaranteed to bring goosebumps.

I saw this last night and immediately I was like "What a cool commercial". So many good memories in there.

It's hard to explain, but seeing Junior in a Reds jersey still doesn't feel right to me. Maybe it's because we so rarely acquire players who have already clearly established themselves with another organization. I don't know.

In any event, it was still a very cool commercial. I think the way he ended up leaving the league actually cemented his reputation as a regular guy. He wasn't Bonds being blackballed while still an effective hitter, McGwire hitting more HR than singles, or Sosa completely falling apart in two short years. Even given the injuries, he had a protracted decline phase in which all of his abilities declined. He hung on as long as he could and then left when it was clearly time to go.

Every star is flawed in his own ways. But Junior was flawed in ways that reinforced his integrity and humanity. He'll be missed.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
