18-year-old righty Abel De Los Santos pitched a hitless second inning today in the DSL all-star game. Carlos Sanchez was 0 for 1 (K) with a walk.
A Cozart/Janish tandem at SS next year seems like a good idea. Money saving as well.
That tandem would most likely be better than Cabrera, but I don't think the Reds should settle for 'average'. I'm not saying it's a bad idea to give Cozart/Janish/Valaika/Negron a shot, but if there's a better alternative out there, the Reds should jump on it. As unrealistic as it is, I'd like to see the Reds try really hard to make a trade for someone of Jose Reyes' caliber.
Cozart is finding his bat now. His improvement is plain to see. He has a major league glove at SS and if this surge is real, will be an improvement for the Reds in 2011.
Nobody mentioned that LeCure ended with 13 Ks.

And no walks ... cripes!
"He looked like a surfer kid from SoCal," manager Dusty Baker says. "He didn't say much, but you could tell he was cool."
Our starting pitching situation right now is truly unthinkable considering what it has been for so long. Its tough to stay grounded when so many guys are performing this well, and there are more capable arms that are getting ready to come off the DL.

mace,
Gil has shown improvement, just since the beginning of this year. I almost lost it yesterday when they brought him in and he opened the ninth with seveen consecutive balls. He recovered and got the job done with no damage. He is more consistent than what he was earlier in the year.
Considering that he was an infielder until two years ago, it seems that his learning curve is pretty decent--good enough, possibly, that he could become a legitimate prospect by early next season or so. His performance yesterday sounds a lot like what Tabor did the night you had to leave early. (Speaking of which, I see that you posted at 3:43 a.m., which means you'd just gotten settled into your office at work . . . )
If Dusty gets an extension, doesn't that guarantee that Orlando Cabrera will get 650 plate appearances next season at Shortstop?
Anybody know the last time the REDS had a Minor League pitcher throw 13 K's w/ no walks in a game?
I can't recall one.
