What bothers me is that Izzy went to the Cards 1st. He was Tony's MAN, yet they passed on him. They re-sign Suppan and Miles, 2 absolute bums released by bad teams and flat out pass on Jason??!

    They must know something...

They chose Suppan over Izzy because they needed help in their starting rotation.

I'm pretty sure that he intends to be a closer again, and Franklin is by no means lights out. As far as middle relief for the Reds, if you think he can pitch more than 1 inning, which he can't, well....

His abilities will come out in the minors. I wish him all the luck.

He's taking Owings place. He'll be on a rotation of every 16 days.

He's making mention of the fact that we almost never used Owings, even in obvious long-relief situations.

I see...but Izzy is a burned out fossil. He will do nothing to help the team. He won't even MAKE the team!

Very low risk move here. Possible reward of getting some experienced bullpen help down the road. I like it. Let Isringhausen get in shape at AAA and if he don't have it still don't bring him up.

Didn't he pitch pretty well with Tampa last year before he blew out his arm?

    Agreed.

Maybe they catch lightning in a bottle. Maybe they don't.

    It won't hurt to try.

I'd rather try and get a reliever or two this way than trade away a prospect for one, unless it's a real top-flight guy, and I'm not sure those guys are readily available. Those guys are way too volatile.

I still hope Walt is working to add a starter and a bat or two.

Joakim Soria is signed for $4M in '11 with a club option for '12. I'd love to obtain him and find a way, at some point, to unload Cordero.

Unloading Cordero seems like a long shot at best. Whether he's here or somewhere else, odds are we're going to be paying the bulk of his salary. So that tells me he's going to be here, closing through next season.
