No it tells me our GM is going to look at all available options and not go and trade away the farm in panic move just to add some short term bullpen arms like the Reds have done in the past.

    *REDS offer izzy contract. *

former cardinal Jason Isringhausen has been offered. could be a good sign? or not, it's worth the risk, maybe he could help out the bullpen, after all, he is a veteran like rhodes.

Depends on what the offer is, would rather go this route then trading away good young talent for bullpen arms.

izzy used to have some good stuff. I remember him with the cardinals, some games he would lose it but some games he was flat automatic out there.

He would also be used differently here then he was in St. Louis, which could impact his effectiveness now. In St. Louis he was the closer, here he won't be and would be used i bet to get out certain RH hitters.

at least the Reds are showing a well organized plan right now, and getting things down.

Minor league contract? Who goes down if he comes...Smith? Then who goes down when Bailey and Harang come back?

I'm guessing Owings time is limited since he never pitches. Hopefully he can after this rain delay tonight, but it's amazing we have a bullpen pitcher that we NEVER use when we're trying to improve the pen.

This is Uncle Walt using his magic again....

Think about this Izzy comes in pitches in the 6th and 7th innings mostly compliments Arthur Rhodes R-L-R 7,8,9....

He was good last year with Tampa before his elbow gave out on him. Tommy John surgery used to be career ending now its like blowing out your acl, you shut it down for 9 months and pitch again. If his velocity is there, then he'll get it done.

Agreed. No harm in this signing at all, IMO. Id say likely pro-rated league minimum. If he doesn't perform, hardly anything lost.

This is a great move IMO, I never realized he had TJ surgery. That could be why he was so bad his last season with STL. Kinda like the way Dempster was so bad with us for a while and turned out he had been pitching with a shredded elbow for a while.

He could easily have a comparable type season that Percival had for STL in 2006 after his career was written off a bit.

I tend to think most closers hit their prime from 33 to 37 as their knowledge allows them a huge edge in one inning of pitching. I think it all depends on how is arm feels and whether he is hitting 92 to 94 in AAA before we bring him up. If he is then he 's back and we picked up a key player during the stretch.

This bullpen become very good as Bray, Logan, and Nick are your secondary guys.

He's had no spring training....he'll need a fair chunk of time in the minors. If he signs, my guess is that he may not come up until the September callups (or maybe just before to make him eligible for the playoffs). The bigger question is what do they do about the 40 man roster. They already have Dickerson on the 60-day DL who will have to have a spot cleared for when he comes back.

I think it is safe to say that Homer will be the long reliever when he gets back. Owings will be gone, not sure what his options are.
