So I started to listen to The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society today on audiobook and it's a great example of one that just doesn't work that way. I was 45 minutes into it before shutting it down.

People always recommend All The Pretty Horses; haven't read it yet.

    Elmore Leonard's westerns are great.

Anything by him is great actually.

My dad loves westerns... His favorite is the Longarm series. Unfortunately, they're hard to get as ebooks via the library. I usually find The Trailsman series or Black Horse westerns a pretty decent substitute.

Thanks to the incredible BBC show "Sherlock," I'm in an Arthur Conan Doyle kind of mood. The only one I've read before is "Hound of the Baskervilles," but I'm about to go back to the beginning and read "A Study in Scarlet."

I'm tearing through Steve Martin's Born Standing Up. It's really interesting to see the progression of his standup persona throughout the '60s before SNL (which is the earliest I know from him).

I'm close to halfway into The Road. I've always heard the overused saying of "Show don't tell" but I really feel like this story is all about telling what's going on. I'm not that crazy over the book so far. Maybe I should've just watched the movie.

Class A: Baseball in the Middle of Everywhere by Lucas Mann

Essays on the Midwest League's Clinton Lumberjack's and Midwestern life as a whole. Mann is young and has quite the future (and the imprimatur of the Iowa Writer's Workshop). It's worth reading for the first chapter alone, where Mann dons the uniform of the mascot, Louie the Lumberjack.

For that matter, read the Larry McMurtry catalog. A good vein to mine.
