Battle Cry by Leon Uris, the Naked and the Dead by Norman Mailor
'Gettysburg' by Stephen Sears. Informative, but slightly disappointing in that he doesn't spend too much time with any one character. A good overview. A lot of new information, but not a lot of new insights into personalities. But then I've read a ton of stuff on the subject. Lee doesn't come off well at all, and that's okay as far as I'm concerned. Meade and Hancock get the credit they deserve. It's a pity Hancock's not better known. He was a better general than many of the Confederates who became household names. His big problem was likely his post-war politics, which included a presidential run as a Democrat in which he was widely supported by former confederates.

Billy Lynn's Halftime Walk by Ben Fountain.
A hallucinatory anti-war story of the US Army Bravo company, heroes of the Iraqi war, being "celebrated" at the halftime of a Dallas Cowboys game. I read all 306 pages in one day. Really great stuff.

Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates. 2/3 Mad Men and 1/3 American Beauty. Picked it up at half price books because of the Kate Winslet Leo Dicaprio cover and was pleasantly surprised. Period piece of US suburbia in 1955. Pretty good.

'The Wicked Girls' by Alex Marwood. Reminds me a bit of Tana French's books. So far, I'd say this is the best mystery book I've read this year. Part of the story seems inspired by the 'Beautiful Creatures' case, but the details here are quite different. Two girls who killed another girl when they were eleven or twelve meet for the first time since. Both, after spending time locked away, have new identities and new lives, and their chance meeting at a crime scene threatens to tear those lives apart.

Just started I Know This Much Is True by Wally Lamb this afternoon. Only about 30 pages in, but this is one of those books that sucks you in from page one, at least so far.

I'm currently reading the first volume of Shelby Foote's trilogy of the Civil War. Its a good narrative but really almost overwhelming with information about the Civil War. I'll probably read the other two volumes later on. I'll need a break from the Civil War after this book. Also I'm reading it on my Kindle which the only way I could ever read this series. The books are too huge to carry around.
