    I know the numbers are there, but I've never been impressed with Owings as a hitter. He steps in the bucket so badly, I don't know why he ever sees a pitch on the inside half of the plate.

    Yet, the numbers are there -- and he hasn't worked at it full-time. Are you suggesting it wouldn't be worth a shot?

    Well, after watching him pitch the other night . . .

    I guess I'm still ambivalent on this one. Obviously, the raw talents are there as a hitter. But I think he'd have a long way to go.

    It's probably unfair to judge his pitching too harshly, considering how sporadically he's been used. But the other night, he really looked like he was slinging the ball--more than usual. Either way, regular use in Louisville is bound to be good for him.
