Trades That DO NOT make sense...

    Okay,

So I am scanning this here site and find upstairs a thread talking about dealing Bruce to the Orioles for Nick Markasis...

Okay, thread goes on to determine that instead of trading Bruce to offer

3 Prospects: Alonso, Heisey, and Maloney

    for

    OF Nick Markasis

Ok, I just want to point out that he is a good ball player. Having an off year... Projected to hit only 10 dingers... But has drove in 100+ runs TWICE and scored 100 runs once... Also hit .300+ 2 times and has always hit .290+ since he bcame a regular.

    Ok Ok Ok

Can I say one more thing?

    He is LEFT HANDED HITTING

Note: This team is Heavy lefty... We need a Right Handed Power Hitter.

    Right Handed Power Hitters available:

    OF Corey Hart
1B Prince Fielder (Joey would have to move to Left, but bad trade anyway)
    RF Jason Werth (Stud)

Okay, with that being said... Why in the world would we want to trade for Nick Markakis? Or David DeJesus?

Seriously, this team needs Right Handed POP and a couple Legit Bull Pen SHUT DOWN Guys... No Matt Lindstroms or Nate Robersons or Whoever else is on the waiver wire... (Note waiver wire is SARCAM)

You lost me once I saw Fielder under the list of LH power hitters. LH or RH Markakis is only in his 5th season and has already accomplished those things you listed off. He gets on base at a high clip and hits lefties almost as good as he does righties. He would be a very solid addition to any lineup, but I don't know that I would trade Bruce for him.

I would take Markakis over Hart and Werth (who neither of have ever hit .300 or had 100 RBI). Werth is a highly overrated player based off 1 solid season and one season Adam Dunn like season.

How exactly is this team heavily lefty? Votto and ???????

St. Louis has Carp/Wainwright/Garcia. Top 2 are RHP
    Braves have Hudson/Hanson/Lowe. All RHP
Padres have Latos/Garland/Richard Top 2 are RHP

This team needs a LH bat if they are going to make a move, wether it be someone to put in the 1-2 hole or someone to put behind Votto/Rolen that will be more consistent than Brucey.

Votto and Bruce are Left Handed... My thinking that when Rolen is out, there is real no Right Handed Power... BPhillips hits 20-30 but he is not the deep threat...

    Anyway... Its just my opinion.

For the life of me, I can't figure out the "lefty-heavy" stuff, but people have been saying it till they're blue in the face, ever since Baker first mentioned last year that it was a "fault" of the team. Votto, Bruce, and Nix are the only three lefties ON THE ROSTER, let alone the every day lineup. If anything, I'd say our right power is well more covered than left power, to answer that, with Rolen, Gomes, Phillips and Stubbs vs Votto and Bruce. But any rate, we need help, regardless of which hand they use for power.

Also, DeJesus is EXACTLY what the lineup needs, a guy that gets on-base at a consistent rate, plus has pop, and can play defense to boot. Markakis is a good player too. Regardless of their handedness, they're good.

1 proven lefty does not make a heavily lefty lineup. DeJesus got hurt tonight though, looked like maybe a broken hand, so he might not be an option at all. There isn't much out there.

David DeJesus left tonight's Royals/Yankees game with a sprained right thumb, suffered after colliding with the wall in an attempt to catch a Derek Jeter fly ball. MLB.com's Tim Britton reports that DeJesus will miss the rest of the four-game series, and Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star tweets that DeJesus will see a hand specialist on Friday. "He might be out a while," Dutton warns.

ok just to clarify prince fielder is a left handed hitter. 2 guys does not make a lh hitting lineup. however i get the drift of the original poster. but we do need a lh hitter at the top of the lineup and dejesus would have been a good fit. gomes is a rh power hitter, stubbs and phillips are perfectly capable of hitting with some power as well as rolen.

really we have enough pop from the right side what we don't have are consistent performers who can hit, we have guys who slug ok. with rolen out votto and phillips are the only 2 capable of hitting consistently and with some pop beyond that we have a bunch of streaky sluggers (bruce, gomes, stubbs, heisey, nix) and a few light hitting contact guys (hanigan, hernandez, cabrera, janish and cairo). dejesus or markakis would be great because they are both more in between our haves and have nots and towards the top of the lineup in between our 2 healthy run producers pushing cabrera down.

I wasn't interested in Dejesus in the beginning, but have come around to the idea of having a guy with a good OBP batting second in the lineup. Stubbs and Bruce can't give you that, and OCab has a low OBP. One of my big gripes about Dusty is batting OCab second.

Agree about Nick Markakis. Hits for average, but has little pop and no speed.

I still think our #1 needs are the following:
    1. Get an ace pitcher for the right price. Volquez showed that he's not it, yet.
    2. Bolster the 2-hole in the lineup with a high OBP/high BA guy, to give Joey, Scott, and Gomes an additional baserunner to knock in.
    3. Bolster the bullpen with a proven quality arm.

Those 3 things fit with the proposed trade someone came up with for Greinke (ace pitcher), Dejesus (high OBP/high BA guy - 2 hole), and Soria (proven bullpen arm).

I would give alot to get those 3 guys. Not as interested in Dejesus, but love the idea of obtaining Greinke and Soria.

Always wish we could unload Cordero's contract.

The sad thing is with the trade deadline coming up, the Reds can't be sellers because they're still in the race. I'm thankful for contending, but if they fall out of it, I'm going to hate the fact that they weren't able to be sellers at the trade deadline. They might have been able to unload Harang or Cordero.

On the other hand, WJ didn't think twice about adding Rolen at the deadline last year, and the team took off. So maybe he has not problem with shaking things up and really changing the look of the team with the addition and subtraction of some players. Next week should be interesting.

Re: Trades That DO NOT make sense...

There are trades just about everyday on there that do not make sense. They often include 3 players we can do without for a star and these posters wonder why Walt hasnt pulled the trigger on them. Because the other team would never do it!

Another factor is this board HIGHLY overrates our prospects, always have. If you look back on this board a year or two you would think Janish will be a future all-star, Romero and Denorfia to steal 60+ bases, and Encarnacion the next Manny.

I am baffled by the desire to "dump" Harang? He won't be back next year so what is wrong with keeping a SP around in case we need him.
