Which trade surprised you the most

Of all the trades the Reds have made say since 1990, which one:

    1. Caught you off guard?
    2. Was the best trade?
    3. Was the worse trade?

    my answers:

    1. Dave Burba for Sean Casey on like 2 days before opening day
    2. Junior trade
    3. Paul O'Neill deal

    1) Chris Reitsma - I remember being in the car with my dad when I heard that one and was pretty surprised by it.

    2) Arroyo - By far the best trade since 1990.

    3) David Wells to Baltimore for Trovin Valdez and Curtis Goodwin

    1. Caught you off guard? Griffey trade when we got Junior
    2. Was the best trade? Scott Rolen for Edwin
    3. Was the worse trade? Might be surprised by this but Konerko for Cameron

I was kinda surprised by how little we gave up for Junior but not that we got him. Rolen is a good get, but I don't see him being a long term help for this team. That was a tough trade, either you deal Konerko or Casey, and looking back now Konerko has had the better career.

    1) I was shocked when I heard Kearns and Lopez for Majewski and Bray plus whatever flotsam and jetsam was included. I would say trading Josh Hamilton was a bit of a shock to the system as well.
    2) Picking up Brandon Phillips has turned out pretty nicely.
    3) Trading Dunn for Owings, Wilkins and Buck hasn't worked out so well.

Really? Arizona did not make the play-offs with Dunn and then thought so much of him that they did not resign him. The Reds were not going to resign him anyway and gained a servicable major league pitcher in Owings.
When I see the 2016 Reds, I see a 100 loss team and no direction.

    Caught you off guard?

    See Texasdave's post

    2. Was the best trade?

Again, Texasdave nailed it for me.

    3. Was the worst trade?

David Wells to Baltimore for Trovin Valdez and Curtis Goodwin.

    GIDP called it.

Trading Dunn for Owings, Wilkins and Buck hasn't worked out so well.
    Agreed.

It still boggles the mind that Walt received a much better return for Griffey than Dunn in 2008.

Micah is ok, Dusty never pitched him, how do you expect the guy to pitch well when he throws in a game situation once every two weeks.

It's difficult to get much for impending free agents, unless they're Cliff Lee.

True, but in that case, take the draft picks.

The mistake was in not dealing Dunn before the July 31st deadline, or even earlier in the Summer of 2008, when it was obvious the team wasn't going anywhere. I suspect that Bob C. put the kibosh on that because of "the losing stops now" mode.

I'll give Jocketty the benefit of the doubt, there.

He had a 5.14 ERA with Bal for his one season and then was a FA and signed with the Yankees. He would have went for the money if he was with the Reds or O's

They would have lost Dunn and season's end anyway

How does that justify such a miserable return?
