I am fine. I can do the rest of the inning then you can do it next inning if you want.

Bourn strikes out looking. 6 Ks for Cueto.

Cool. So if the astros manage to score somehow, now we know who to blame.

Sanchez grounds out to 3rd. 6-0 Reds after 8.

    Cueto ends at 121 pitches.

Ugh...Dusty and his obsession with starting pitchers getting through full innings. Sure, Cueto looked fine, but why wear the guy down? In a blow out game? Have Smith pitch 1.1 or 1.2 innings. I hope it doesn't come back to bite Dusty later.

    Fantastic start by Cueto: 8IP, 4H, 0ER, 1BB, 6K.

Let's hope Johnny gets this batter. If not, the king of allowing inherited runners to score comes in. Good, groundout to third. Good outing for Cueto ERA now down to 3.16.

Great job by Cueto. It's a shame the bullpen was so overworked lately. I would've liked to have seen him pulled prior to that inning. But I understand Dusty's predicament.

Not thrilled to see Cueto throw so many pitches, but he sure did get the job done tonight. Way to go Johnny.

I understand the bullpen issue. But when push comes to shove, you make the middle relievers take the weight, not your most effective starter who has had stamina issues in the past. You burn Smith out and you can replace him. Burn Cueto out and we have a problem. Luckily they were pretty low stress innings He seems to have made big strides in his composure this year -- so much less overthrowing.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

At least they seemed to be low-stress pitches.

Re: 7/24/10 Reds @ Astros--Deep in the Heart of Lefties

That was just a great outing by Cueto. If he can keep pitching like that, Volquez can be close to '08 form, Arroyo can be consistent, and Wood and Leake can be simply average, then I think you can punch the ticket to the playoffs!!

As was previously decided, I will assume play-by-play duties, for the 9th inning.

Re: 7/24/10 Reds @ Astros--Deep in the Heart of Lefties

There's an off day this week so he'll get an extra day of rest before his next start. Johnny's not a rookie anymore and with the off day this week (along with the mostly stress free innings), I have no problem with Dusty giving him a chance to get through that inning.
