    So if Masset was coming into the game for the 8th anyway, then why double switch at all? I guess that was my real point. It is another case of pre-committing a PH. If Rhodes was gonna pitch the 8th then the double switch makes sense.

    I am asking that. Why didnt they double switch gomes out and just move Heisey to LF.

    All that would have changed is that Nix would PH in the 4th spot instead of the 5th spot.

    Because Gomes is a better option than any pinch hitter we could throw out there? Even after what Nix did yesterday, I still don't want him hitting instead of Gomes in a big situation top 9.

    I doubt he was available except in extreme circumstances. I think Dusty will do the "he said he could start Monday so he can pinch hit Monday and start Tuesday" routine.
