    Reds home/road stats

    Offense:

    Home:

    53 games
280 runs scored (1st in NL)
    5.28 RS/G

    Away:

    47 games
    202 runs (8th in NL)
    4.30 RS/G

The offense is scoring nearly a full run less on the road than they are at home.

    Pitching:

    Home:

    53 games
    4.56 ERA (14th in NL)

    Away:

    47 games
    3.64 ERA (1st in NL)

I think this shows just how great of a hitters park GABP is and how much the Reds offense benefits from playing half their games there. I think the Reds offense is overrated and this is one of the reasons why. The offense has now been shutout 12 times in 100 games. That's pretty bad. You get this team away from GABP and they aren't anything close to the offensive powerhouse the stats would lead you to believe. And the pitching is better than the overall stats would indicate.

I think this team needs to add another bat at the deadline. David DeJesus would have been a great fit but unfortunately, he's done for the season. Jayson Werth would be a tremendous acquisition as well.
    I miss Adam Dunn.

Nice post. I think its fairly obvious that a team playing half its games at GABP needs to be in the top 4 or 5 in offense to be better than mediocre and middle of the pack is probably pretty good pitching wise.

That said, a TOR starter is still the top need IMO.

FWIW, B-R has our OPS+ at 106 and our ERA+ at 102. Park adjusted, this has both our offense and run prevention at slightly above average.

The Padres are an interesting comp at the other extreme. They come in at 100 and 111.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Byrd would be a great pick up.

Yep. Not sure why everyone thinks the Cubs would deal him though. Fukudome is only signed through 2011 and they could, in theory, cut him loose or pay some team to take him at any time after the season or next year. Colvin, Byrd and Soriano is the likely OF in Chicago in 2011 and it would be a pretty good one IMO even if Soriano is flawed and overpaid. Subtract Byrd and that strength becomes a weakness.

The Cubs are pretty enigmatic right now. Don't know what the ownership wants, but man they are flailing.

He's in the first year of a 3/15 deal. Sadly, I don't think the Cubs are smart enough to deal him while his value is high.
