    Claude Osteen, Joe Nuxhall, Jim Brosnan, and Bill Henry combined for six innings of five-hit shutout relief for the Reds. Nuxhall was ejected in the eighth inning for bumping first base umpire Ed Vargo during an argument after an infield single by Cubs CF George Altman in which Vargo ruled that Altman beat the covering Nuxhall to the bag. Nuxhall continued to argue from the dugout and threw several bats onto the field.

    The Ol' Lefthander had a little bit of a temper.

    I wonder how many games Nuxie was tossed? Reading these past box scores it seems like he was ejected quite a bit.

    According to Retrosheet, Nuxhall was ejected 11 times in his career.

    Nuxhall had 526 career appearances so that would be one ejection for every 47.8 appearances.

    Also while I have nothing to back this up it just seems from watching old video that you really had to be out of control to get ejected in the old days. Umpires are much quicker to toss now a days it seems.
