For the vast majority of players, telling them to shorten up and put the ball in play to avoid strike outs is a stupid plan. For Stubbs it might actually work.

I have no problems with any other facet of his game, but the strikeouts -- for a guy with that skill set -- drive me nuts.

Is Stubbs an above average player in CF, though?

Is he even better than Heisey or Dickerson?

I like Stubbs, but sometimes he's tough to watch.

Fielder walks. 4th walk by Volquez.

Volquez doesn't deserve a win tonight. Don't leave him out there to get it.

The Reds tried that in the minors.

Don't think of him as fast. Think of him as a slugger.

Stupid question: does Dusty speak Spanish? I seem to remember that he does.

They are talking Volquez out. Ondrusek coming in.

He does. I think Price does as well.

What a pace to this game. Over 2 hours and we are in the 4th inning.

Wow Dusty with an early hook. Usually he waits one batter too long.

He has the 16th best OPS of major league CF's this year.

When you factor in his GG winning defense and exceptional running, he's above average.

Is 95 pitches thru 3 2/3 for a guy coming off TJ surgery really an early hook?

    Would Heisey/Dickerson be better?

I think he does speak Spanish. I detected a little madness on the Duster's part. I also noticed Edinson wouldn't look straight in his eye. I think everyone, including Volquez, was less than happy with his performance.

Colby Rasmus and Dexter Fowler were nothing to write home about in 2009.
