The only hits for the Reds were a two-out infield single by Gus Bell in the first inning, a two-out double by Cliff Cook in the second, a two-out double by Gordy Coleman in the fourth, and a one-out infield single by Vada Pinson in the sixth. Reds manager Fred Hutchinson was ejected in the top of the sixth inning by second base umpire Vinnie Smith after Pinson was called out at second on a fielder's choice grounder by Bell. Jim Maloney made his major-league debut for the Reds in this game, pitching seven innings of six-hit, one-run baseball with 5 K's in a losing effort.
