    volquez bitting thumb?

In last nights game both Welch and Tom made a comment that they saw Volquez bitting at his thumb, then during a time when the Reds were at bat they showed Volquez in the dugout biting on his thumb of his pitching hand and from the camera angle it looked like maybe he had a small blister or something, which if true might be a reason for the control issue last night. His velocity is good, but if you are having a thumb issue AND returning from major arm surgery and having not pitched much, might be a reason for his wildness last night.

it's possible.. it's like using a shovel alot when you haven't picked up a shovel in a year.. you are more apt to get a blister than if you shovel everyday
