Last time a whole series sold out?

Anyone know when this was? Yankees, Red Sox, Giants/Bonds, Tribe, Cubs? I can't remember an ordinary NL series selling out since GABP was new.

I don't know if they were sellouts but when the Cards came to town in early August '06 there were three straight games that were real close.

Re: Last time a whole series sold out?

Here are all of the series where the Reds have drawn 100,000+ fans at GABP.

That St. Louis series in 2006 was not completely sold out. Those numbers are ridiculous though for a weeknight series.

    St. Louis @ Cincinnati - 2006
    Monday, August 7 - 34,262
    Tuesday, August 8 - 40,094
    Wednesday, August 9 - 41,649
    Thursday, August 10 - 39,591

The only series that was completely sold out at GABP was the Yankees series back in 2003.

    New York Yankees @ Cincinnati - 2003
    Tuesday, June 3 - 41,827
    Wednesday, June 4 - 42,082
    Thursday, June 5 - 42,282
    Total for Series - 126,191

The Boston series in '08 was the closest of the past few years.

    Boston @ Cincinnati - 2008
    Friday, June 13 - 38,855
    Saturday, June 14 - 40,947
    Sunday, June 15 - 39,958
    Total for Series: 119,760

All of these are weekend 3-game series unless otherwise noted.

(I did not include 100,000+ 4 game series unless the per game average would have put them on this list as a 3 game series)

    2010 May 28-30 - vs. Houston - 103,769
    2010 July 16-18 - vs. Colorado - 103,647

    2009 June 5-7 - vs. Chicago Cubs - 105,917
    2009 June 19-21 - vs. Chicago White Sox - 103,415
    2009 July 3-5 - vs. St. Louis - 102,737

    2008 - May 16-18 - vs. Cleveland - 110,068
    2008 - May 30-June 1 - vs. Atlanta - 111,542
    2008 - June 13-15 vs. Boston - 119,760
    2008 - Sept. 5-7 - vs. Chicago Cubs - 109,957

    2007 - April 20-22 - vs. Philadelphia - 102,032
    2007 - June 8-10 - vs. Cleveland - 107,473
    2007 - July 27-29 - vs. Chicago Cubs - 112,061
    2007 - Sept. 28-30 - vs. Chicago Cubs - 103,749

    2006 - June 9-11 - vs. Chicago Cubs - 101,264
    2006 - June 16-18 - vs. Chicago White Sox - 103,693
    2006 - June 30-July 2 - vs. Cleveland - 112,471
    2006 - August 7-10 - vs. St. Louis - 155,596 (4 game series - Mon-Thurs)

    2005 - NO SERIES 100,000+

    2004 - May 7-9 - vs. San Francisco - 104,070
    2004 - June 4-6 - vs. Montreal - 105,060
    2004 - June 15-17 - vs. Texas - 115,998 (Mon-Wed)
    2004 - June 25-27 - vs. Pittsburgh - 118,597

That Texas series in 2004 sold out because Griffey was going for 500. I remember going to those games, hoping to catch the ball so I could sell it!!!!

Thanks jhc, awesome info. I figured there would be at least 1 series since that Yankee one that was sold out.

Barring a collapse the next 4 home series should hit 100k easily.

I attended the Yankees series at GABP, most were Reds fans out cheering against the Yankees. It wasn't as if 20,000 of the fans were Yankees fans, surprisingly.

Re: Last time a whole series sold out?

    Interesting read from cincinnati.com

    http://news.cincinnati.com/article/2...s-ticket-sales

"It wasn't until the end of May that fans really began coming out: A series with Houston drew more than 30,000 per game. Prior to that, the Reds were averaging only 21,500. Since then they're averaging more than 28,000."

"A few weeks ago, the Reds began promoting a "Buy a 2011 season ticket, get all of our August and September games for free" as a way to build the base.

"That's incredibly aggressive marketing," said Maury Brown, president of the Business of Sports Network, which tracks such things. "That's a win-win for the fans."

The only other major league club that's doing it is the Padres, who announced their program back in June and already have had 100 people sign up. The Reds, much later in getting on board, have already sold 50."

I wonder how many of those 50 are scalpers? I would be a majority are, not that the Reds care.

What is the seating/standing capacity crowd of GABP? I seriously don't know and was wondering.

42,000 + is a packed yard. Add another 1,000 SRO and you might get 43,000 for a big game.

the 42,282 (10 more than the official capacity) for the Yankees game in 2003 is probably as full as she's ever been.

42,271 is the regular capacity. The largest crowd ever is 42,794 on Opening Day 2005. I couldn't find anything about the number of SRO tickets that are made available.
