I called my wife from work and asked, "Can I buy a Johnny VanderMeer autographed ball for $25?" "Sure," she said, "as long as I can buy something frivolous too." I told these folks that I love that I have a wife who didn't say "Who" - she knew who this was.

A year or so ago, I had some tickets to the Reds game against the Cubs that I brought to Mass that Sunday because I figured I'd find somebody who could use them. Paint was in town and at church with his girlfriend (now fiancee) and I asked him if they wanted them. He asked if she wanted to go and she said sure, that she wanted to see this Cub fan thing up close. And she did agree the following week that it wasn't hype about how jerky they are. You have to like that!
You had to get permission to buy a 25 dollar ball?

But did he at least get a "no-trade" clause?

    Congrats!

Personally, I'm afraid to get married. I read a statistic that said that 50% of all marriages end up lasting your whole lfe. Scary!

    But seriously, congratulations!

Finances had been really, really tight at that point in time, so yeah, I did.

    That makes sense.

I had more of a problem with the insinuation that a Vander Meer ball would be considered "frivolous."

    Congrats, paintmered!

Well, yes, that is a valid point, but remember she was raised a Cardinals fan. She got over it though and is now a Reds fan.

Understood. My wife wasn't interested in baseball at all when we met. Now I've got her cheering for the Reds and acting like she's the players' big sister or something. When I tell her, for example, that Travis Wood pitched 7 innings and only allowed 2 hits, she says, "I'm so proud of that kid!"

After two years in the minor following an agreement to a long-term deal, I want to congratulate Paintsmered and Mrs. Paintsmered on their call up to the big leagues today. A beautiful day for a wedding and let's get some blissful mojo to get the Reds win too.

I thought everyone would like Paints' groom cake.
