    Pirates add Snyder

    Per MLBtraderumors.

That's something like $11MM committed next year to Snyder and Doumit, two of the worst defensive catchers in baseball.

Not really sure what value Doumit has if you try and move him.

Maybe I'm just missing something but this is a head scratcher.

Remember this is the franchise who actually gave up something for Matt Morris when he cost 8.5 mil and gave up something of value to do it.

Who did they give up? I forgot about them getting Matt Morris. I think the only decent game he pitched that year was shutting down the Reds.

I'm surprised that the Pirates did it due to the money, but I actually think that player-wise this is a good move as the Pirates grabbed an above average overall catcher for players that no longer are worth much of anything.

I have no idea what kind of clubhouse/leadership presence Doumit provides, but he really comes off as a surly guy through the media. He's already bellyaching about the move, but you can hardly fault the Pirates when he hasn't been special offensively since '08, has never been special defensively, and has never led the pitching staff to any sort of success.

FWIW, RJ Anderson at fangraphs likes the deal for the Pirates: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php?author=10
". . . acquiring J. Blanton from Oakland for, apparently, Bailey/Cueto, Votto and a lesser prospect. I do it in a second . . . The Reds' equation this year is simple: Make Matt Belisle your #3 starter . . . trade for Blanton, win 85 or more, be in the mix all summer." - Paul Daugherty, Feb. 8, 2008

I also like the deal for the Pirates. Snyder can good power for a catcher and is willing to take a walk. Good deal considering what the Pirates gave up.
    I miss Adam Dunn.

Matt Morris was traded for Rajai Davis and Stephen MacFarland

It's a very good move for the Pirates. The Reds could use Snyder next year...

But really, it's a very logical move for the Pirates too as I doubt they view Doumit as a viable catcher given he's pretty bad defensively.

Rajai Davis. Career line of .278, .331, .387. With Speed 125 sbs in 159 attempts, who is now in Oakland. Who is not even 30.
