If Volquez was getting the edge like Hanson, his wildness wouldn't be quite so bad.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Have to say they weren't shown that way on Gameday. For what that's worth.

As you know, pitchers as erratic as Volquez don't generally get any help. And that's not unfair; you can't expect the umpires to call stuff when they have little idea where any pitch may be going.

Hinske strikes out swinging. 6 Ks for Volquez.

96 pitches and a little progress there at the end of the inning. I think I'd leave him in if the first two go out for us this inning.

i hear that all the time and don't buy it...there's a rule book zone...it's either a strike or a ball and shouldn't matter who threw it or who took it...if we're all admitting that it does matter then it's time for some sort of automated system

Interesting story about Volquez and the curveball. Didn't know that he'd abandoned the slider entirely.
