Why wouldn't it continue? It's been the pattern of his whole very brief "career" (I put that in quotes because, apart from 2008, it amounts to about a grand total of 140 innings over 5 seasons). He's got about a 5 W per 9 lifetime average and was 5.8 last year over his starts.

Yep. That's how he is and probably always will be.

Volquez's fastball is great, but his great changeup just isn't there right now.

People have to stop overreacting to his walks though. He's always going to walk a lot of people.

    Strike 3 on a 95 MPH fastball.

He'll be fine. He just has to get the feel for his changeup again.

Walks are poison to any pitcher. Especially at the rate he gives them out. They elevate your pitch count, you put people on base (why they call it a free pass), and allow runs you shouldn't. If he walks a lot of people, his success will be limited. Already at 48-49 pitches through two innings. He might go 5 and that kills a bullpen.

46 pitches in 2 innings. At best, we're going to see a lot of the pen today.

He's never going to be a low pitch count guy. He strikes out a lot and he walks a lot, that's how he is going to be.

Of course it's exaggerated right now, but people have to be patient. At least until Homer or Harang are ready.
