Russ Springer to join Reds in Pittsburgh?

    From John Fay:

Russ Springer is returning to the major leagues.

Springer, the Pollock resident and former LSU star, will join the Reds on Monday in Pittsburgh, Springer had been pitching for the Redsí class AAA affiliate in Louisville, Ky., for the last two weeks.

In seven appearances with the Louisville Bats, Springer did not allow a run in 6 1/3 innings. He allowed two hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Reds officials have not announced the move but Springer notified friends in Central Louisiana on Sunday that he was on his way to Pittsburgh to join the team.

I wonder who he's replacing? Carlos Fisher? Fisher has pitched 4.2 shutout innings with no walks and 5 K's since returning so I don't reall understand sending him down, assuming that's who he's replacing.
    I miss Adam Dunn.

Fisher is a rookie. Springer is a vet. Fisher is the last guy in the bullpen to go to. I don't really have an issue with the move at this point, if that is the guy they are sending down.

I still don't have any real confidence in Fisher, but that's just me. I'd be okay with this move.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

Yeah, I'd be ok with that particular move as well. It's the most logical of ones that are likely/realistic to make.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Cincinnati Bengals - None
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

Given that Dusty was only using Fisher in a long man role, that's not a huge loss.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

As long as it's Fisher, it's fine.

Time for Walt to see what he's got in L-Ville so he can figure out if he needs a waivers relief arm by mid/late August. It will be the volleyball-ocracy until somebody can be productive and sticks (Springer, Burton, Izzy and then Chapman). Otherwise, rotate to the next guy and rinse-repeat.

I hope Jordan Smith stays on the 25 man roster.

Not only is an active roster spot needed; so is a 40-man roster spot. Only thing I can see is Homer to the 60-day DL. I'm not sure what else can be done without exposing a quality player to waivers.
This will not change until the Reds win the World Series.......

Rumor was Harang to the 60-day DL.

Bray would be an option to. Springer has been to good to leave down there. Dickerson should be coming with him.

Homer is rehabing and about a start or two away from making it back

Hmm, interesting development. I hate to say it but it is the best thing for all if true. Aaron it was good seeing your best, have fun in S.D. next year. You'll always be a Red though.
