I would be shocked if he came up and was the best. There is a hUGE difference in AAA players and the major leagues. Best to let him continue to learn, because right now I don't see him better then anyone in our bullpen.

If Chapman comes up in September and absolutely dominates, or even just proves he's better than Bray, people will be livid that he would be ineligible for the playoffs.
Do you really want that kid pitching in a playoff game? I don't, i want pitchers with a ton of ML experience and to use it when it counts. Let the kid mature a little more before that presure is added to him.

it goes both ways brm....batters are not going to have a sheet on chapman to go off of....he might just dominate since no one has seen him pitch yet...just the way as Mike Leake done great his first time seeing each team, now that the league has a bead on him, he is comming down to earth.....who knows, Chapman might just be the best when the batters have not seen what he has. I am not saying your wrong, just saying the batters have to adjust as well and tons of pressure.

Maybe this sounds ridiculous, but I honestly feel like the parrot mascot had Leake flustered tonight. Don't remember the 1st inning, but I didn't see him behind the plate any other inning after McCutchen getting hit.

e: Anyway, I'd like to see Chapman called up for the same reasons as lidspinner said. Remember Joba Chamberlain coming up for the Yanks? He basically carried that bullpen (and that team to an extent.) Maybe the playoffs didnt work out, but I think a 102+mph LHP with no real scouting reports on him sounds pretty good. I'm not sure who would get replaced, though.

That is no ordinary parrot mascot. That was Mike Lincoln in that suit and he means business! Leake stole his spot in the rotation in ST and he will not rest until he gets it back.

I think I remember Randy Johnson when I was younger hitting 102, but I don't ever remember hearing of 103 before...

Joel Zumaya hit 103 a few years ago. There were even tshirts made and he would sign baseball with his signature and a "103."

He then hit 104 last year...

    Strasburg supposedly hit 103 recently.

Apparently Joel Zumaya was clocked at 104.8 mph in 2006 and that is the only pitch ever clocked at over 103.

Well, I went with the radar gun number on that pitch (103). That 104.8 number used a different technology (supposedly better). The radar guns at the park measured that pitch at 102 to 103. So that one is sort of up for debate since it used different tech than radar guns (so not a direct comparison). Yet it's still considered the highest ever recorded.

He did hit 104 on a radar gun last year.

I hit 112 mph throwing in my back yard but nobody was around to see it happen.

    Can we send Cordero down?
