Do you remember or have any info why Charlton was a SP in this game??

This was actually Charlton's fifth start of the season. Piniella thought that the rotation needed a boost, since Danny Jackson was injured (Jackson missed a month and a half in July and August--he started the second game of a doubleheader on 7/12, and didn't start again until 8/30), and the fifth starter (Scott Scudder, Rick Mahler, and Chris Hammond) was inconsistent and mediocre at best. Lou didn't want two of those guys in the rotation with Jackson out, so he moved Charlton into the rotation after the All-Star Break. Norm made a total of 16 starts in 1990.
