Nefi Soto and Denis Phipps each had two hits.
Phipps continued his domination of the league with another homerun.
Jordan Wideman was 3-for-3, which nearly brought his batting average up to respectability.
    The bullpen was excellent.
Blair Carson won his Lynchburg debut.

    -
Josh Fellhauer went hitless, and his BA dipped to .249.
Kyle Day was hit by a pitch and had to leave the game.

Chase Weems nearly got his batting average up to .200.

Top third of the lineup was 5-for-11.
Carlos Sanchez, the team's best hitter, has gotten on base in 10 of his last 16 plate appearances.

This is actually the game from Aug. 4. For some reason, milb posted it again on tonight's scoreboard. It was Justin Walker's first game in Lynchburg. He pitched again last night, and was excellent.

I've actually gotten a few thank yous since yesterday. Thank you for noticing. I'm just glad y'all enjoy them. If you've noticed what I've done these past few days, I'm sure you've also noticed what OBM, dougdirt, redsof72, cinreds21, GOYA, muddie, mce, mth123, and the many, many others have done to make this such a great forum. There are a ton of thank yous that deserve to go around, but since the list of names is too long, I'll just send a giant thank you to the many people who add quality conversation to the forum.

No thanks necessary for me. I do it because I like to do it.
(and I've been slacking a bit this season)

For those who've lost count, the Bats have won 16 of their last 17.
And, from July 3 until now, their record is 29-6.

I have him as a slightly above average runner from home to first. Certainly a good base runner. He has the speed to steal some bags in the majors, though I doubt he is a 30 steals guy in the majors.

I know this may be looking into things a little bit too much, but the Reds' recent track record of bringing up guys who step right in and get the job done has to be aided by how much better the situation in AAA has gotten over the last two months. It seems like most every guy that has been called up has proven his worth in some way.

Maloney and Wood both exceeded expectations (one obviously more than the other). Ondrusek made the jump back up before the Bats went on their tear, but his time down there obviously served him well. LeCure held his own. Fisher has been lights out since he came up for the second time in July. Francisco has been a great bench bat in his limited time up.

Even the guys who are rehabbing seem to go on cruise control when they arrive off the bus in Louisville. Bray, Volquez, Dickerson, and Bailey (knock on wood) all made good progress. In the case of Bray and Volquez, they've made it back to the majors and contributed in some way (though not in exemplary fashion).

It's getting to the point that whoever gets called up from the minors I just expect them to fill in and do a satisfactory-to-admirable job for the MLB club. I know that's unreasonable in the long term, but most things this year have just fallen very nicely in place. Whatever it is, be it improved talent, being confident they can take their success to the next level, or Sweet, Power, and Garrett putting these guys in a good mindset to succeed, or a mix of it all, I love it.

I have a raincheck from an earlier Chapman start that was rained out and I'm going to make a point to go down and see that club play next week while the Reds are on the road. Go Bats!

Also, does anyone else think that the Bats, the way they are playing right now could give the Pirates' MLB squad a serious run for their money in a 5 game series? I'm convinced the Bats have comparable pitching, though their current lineup is under-equipped in comparison.
