    Tuesday, August 10, 2010, Minor-League Updates

    Lynchburg got 2 in the first and lost 5-2. Curtis Partch is pitching better lately (6 IP, 2 R, 6 K), but Pedro Villareal, up from Dayton, was roughed up a bit in his Lynchburg debut. Kyle Day drove in the 2 with a double and walked twice. Nothing else exciting on the hitting end.

    I didn't realize that the VSL Reds completed their season on Sunday (with an 7-6 win). Apparently, they decided it wasn't worth playing anymore without Ronald Torreyes.

    They finished with a 35-33 record.

    In 67 games and 241 at-bats, Torreyes led the league in

    * batting (390)
    * OPS (1.074)
    * hits (94 -- next was 76)
    * total bases (146 -- next was 111)
    * doubles (20)
    * triples (10 -- next was 6)
    * slugging (606)
    * runs (56)

    Luis Gonzalez, a 17-year-old lefty, led the VSL in ERA (2.49) and WHIP (0.97). Oswaldo Mieres was 4th in ERA, Franderlin Romero 8th.

    Mieres (18, RH), led the league in strikeouts (61 in 72.2 IP).

    Those numbers are really impressive, but what blows me out of the water is the gap between Torreyes and the guy in second. Wow. Can't wait to see what he does in the next step up.

    Dayton is a woeful 10-32 in the second half. Unbelievably, they have not been that bad on the road at 9-12, but the Dragons are 1-20 at home in the second. That just does not seem possible.

    I shouldn't argue too much since my spelling can be pretty weak, but is it a joke on the board with Alonso? I mean he is one of our TOP prospects can we cut the Alonzo Mourning spelling.

    Not an attack at all GOYA, and thanks for all the Bats updates!

    Here is to Yonder Alonso continuing the tear tonight!

    It was copied and pasted from the Bats Facebook post. I didn't even think to check for spelling.

    Bailey was going to be the starter, but due to the Reds plans he is going to only throw an inning. May be to step into Leake's spot? Just Reds rumors so far.

    Yeah, I'd seen that he'd been moved up. Haven't seen many results yet though. He'll certainly be a guy I'll be watching with interest.

    Where did Eric Eymann come from?

    Why is Castillo playing 2nd Base for Valaika?

    Eymann went up several days ago when Felix Perez was reactivated here in Carolina.

    Mez homers for the Mudcats as Carolina is down 4-3 after one inning. Scott Carroll starting for the Mudcats.
