It's very simple. Phillips hates the Cards because they're winners. He is a talented player who has never been to the playoffs, and he sees the Cards as the main obstacle to him getting there in 2010. A guy in his situation should hate the Cards. I understand and expect that. And if that was all he'd said, there would have been no problem.
But directing juvenile insults and name-calling at an entire team? Fans do that. Professional ballplayers don't.

Yeah, it looked to me there wasn't whole alot he could do and if he's telling the truth and he was initially trying to play peacemaker and then he's pushed back, he was just trying to keep from getting badly injured.
That being said, he still probably gets suspended.

You may be able to troll the cardinal board you came from but you arent going to troll me.
You have to anticipate a punch if there is any type of pushing going on. If anybody pushes me than a punch is going to follow quickly after. It's called self defense. Carpenter will get the biggest suspension followed by Cueto, Rolen & Larue.
you ppl complaining about cueto kicking are pansies. Have you ever been in a fight? there are no rules. use what you have to use. Ive never been in a fight where i wasnt trying to hurt the other person badly. Anything goes in a fight.
I would prefer Cueto kicks people in a fight rather than risk breaking his hand on a connected punch.
