    Random Thoughts

The Cardinals are too good to whine so much.

Maybe Brandon Phillips should greet the opposing players and umpires with a simple " 'Sup?" rather than poking them with a large stick.

Maybe he should try hitting the ball more with that large stick.

Say what you want about Brandon, but he can motivate a team.

I'd have to see the video again, but I think Brendan Ryan got in a few swings at Carpenter too.

One of the fans should have thrown an octupus on the field.

I expected both teams to have finish the game with the seven guys from the bullpen who didn't make it to the fight in time.*

We expected some of our young pitchers to hit the wall, but we didn't expect it to be Johnny Cueto.

Ex-Reds, ex-Cards, that's what happens when you find a lot of ex-es in the same place.

Maybe the Reds should DL Jonny Gomes and "expect discipline" for the Cardinals.

Somewhere Juan Marichal is saying, "That's not a fight."

And John Roseboro is saying, "Ouch, that still hurts."

So which manager would you rather have in a fight?

Chris Carpenter would complain about the traffic lights in Cooperstown.

    Re: Random Thoughts

    I consider myself to be

    1) A pretty good writer
    2) Pretty funny/clever

I'm also a tad arrogant about those things, if we're being totally honest

So, normally when I read something (even folks I enjoy like Bill Simmons) I think, "that's great, but I could produce something equally, if not more, entertaining."

However, in all my 32 years, I can say there are two "writers" I could never touch.

One is Gary Smith of SI. He is beyond brilliant.

Two, is BCubb of Redszone and his random thoughts.

I'm 100% serious about that. Pure brilliance. Kudos as always.

Now, how's THAT for a random thought?

    Instant classic.

I fully expect someone on MLB Network to borrow that line.

Jim Edmonds becomes a Red and never leaves his feet; the rest of the team takes a dive.

Love this one. Especially aloved the Cueto hitting the wall line. Nice work.

    Re: Random Thoughts

Aw, you guys remember me. Thanks for the kind words.

ESPN favored me with a rare Reds game this week and I have, of course, had one eye on the standings for a while now, so I was pretty excited about the series. Which I guess is a long and roundabout way of saying you guys have been on my mind.

    It's good to see you.
