Looks like it. Huge blow to the Braves.

Wow, that's a huge bummer for them. I hope he gets better soon. He's a great player and a great leader for that team.
"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search

An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”

Re: Chipper Jones done for the year?

Like many players that have beat the Reds' brains out over the years, I had a long-standing dislike of Chipper Jones. His name was synonomous for the great run the Braves had since 1991. Not because of anything he did that was obnoxious (besides his high socks) but more because he was just *good* and did things that beat the Reds. I don't like that.

But after a guy has been so good for so long, you can't but help admire him as a player. Jones has entered that phase of his career in my thinking. So I'm sorry to hear of his injury. I think there was discussion that this might be his last season.

When we saw the Braves a couple weeks back, I tried to get a "Lar-ry, Lar-ry" chant going when Jones was up to bat for old times sake. Everyone around me looked at me like I was crazy.

Didn't Chipper already say this would be his last year? So we've seen the last of him then?

He's my sister's favorite player on her favorite team. I'll have to be sure and rub this in like any good big brother would.

He's done. Not just for the season, IMO, but for good.

There has long been speculation that Jones would hang it up when Cox retired. They'd go out together. After playing for Cox his whole career, the thought of breaking in a new manager was something that Jones never seemed to embrace.

I'd be shocked if Jones is in a baseball uniform next season.

He's made some strong hints that would be the case. He's said repeatedly if he feels he can't continue success or stay healthy, he'll hang it up. He said back in May there was a chance this would be his last season. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't want to go through another rehab process like this one.

I hate the Braves but this is a bad way to go out. I'm sure he's going to hang up the cleats now.

I wouldn't be so sure. A lot of these guys have the best of intentions when they say they will hang up the cleats but when push comes to shove, they try to come back. They miss the life, they miss the guys, they miss the money.

Yeah that's true, but Chipper doesn't strike me as that kind. He seems like a pretty straight-shooter. I think when he says that, he means it (not that others don't mean it, but saying and doing are obviously two different things).

That's what we always thought about Favre. :

I expect this will be the last we'll see of Chipper ... until he's elected to the HOF. A heckuva career.

Hmmm...Junior and Chipper going into the HOF together? Good excuse to make it a family road trip to Cooperstown I guess.

Let's not call it quits for Chipper so soon.

Re: Chipper Jones done for the year?

There's a bit of a debate going on, and I'm curious where people here stand on it. Is Chipper Jones a first ballot HoF'er? Is he a HoF'er at all?

    Personally, I say yes, he's a HoF'er without a doubt. First ballot...I'd say no.

    2490 hits
    436 hr
    1491 rbi
    .306 career avg
    1505 runs
    .941 career ops

He's clearly fallen just short on some of those magic HoF numbers (500 hrs, 3000 hits, 1500 rbi's) and we've seen guys snubbed who fell "just" short. So...what do you guys think? HoF'er, 1st ballot HoF'er, snubbed?
