He's not the same guy. He doesn't throw nearly as hard as he used to.

Though he is still good, there is every reason to be concerned.
I wonder if the Giants are second-guessing his past seasons’ pitch counts.

He still is 2nd in the league in Ks.

And then there is his diminishing velocity ...

But I keep going back to one thing that cannot be explained by Molina’s utter Molina-ness or the fact that In the Old Days They All Threw 300 Pitches a Game and Liked It:

    * Lincecum’s fastball now settles into the 89-91 mph range after the first inning, and two years ago it was consistently at 94-96 mph.

If you don’t have hitters in fear of the fastball, that makes the change-up so much less deadly. I don’t care who the catcher is.

Concerned? About what? His FIP is 3.27.

His K-Rate is still 9.73 and walk rate 3.45. It should also be noted that his BABIP is 20 points higher than usual, his HR/FB ratio is finally around a sustainable 9% (it's been 5.5% each of the past two seasons) and his GB/FB ratio is actually better than usual.

These aren't exactly red flags here. Certainly not in this short a sample. If it continues over the next year or two, that would be one thing.

Wow, a pitch at his feet called a strike.

    I'm not suggesting he's horrible.

He's just not the dominant pitcher this year that he was in the past.

His fastball sits in the low 90's these days.

Tell you what, the Brewers not having much better luck with the Wainwright yakkers than the Reds do. That curveball is the truth.

According to Fangraphs, he's on pace to have the same quality of fastball he's had the previous two years despite his loss in velocity. His best pitch has always been his changeup (which he's ranked No. 5 in all of baseball with this year).

Even for what he is, there's only been about a dozen pitchers in baseball that's statistically had a better year.

Rumors of his demise are greatly exaggerated indeed.

Which is about a run higher than his last two years.

I'd be mostly concerned about a big drop in velocity. That usually spells trouble with a capital TJ.

Hey, FYI from the Moderator deck - these Card threads are a great idea, they are definately worth it. However, we'll move this to the Game Thread Subfolder when we are finished.

Also, from tomorrow on, please start Card game threads in the Game Thread subfolders. Thanks!
