Carolina's final game of the series with Mobile has been rained out. The game will not be rescheduled. I'm guessing this means Jordan Hotchkiss' debut with Carolina will happen tomorrow night against the Birmingham Barons as they come in for their only visit this year. For nostalgia's sake, years ago I saw Birmingham in here against the Mudcats and Terry Francona was their manager. North Carolina is currently host to three of the White Sox minor league affiliates; Kannapolis (low A), Winston-Salem (Advanced A), and Charlotte (AAA). Forgive me for rambling guys, we're talking rain out here.

Thinking out loud, Sappelt has surprised me with his early success at Louisville. Really pleased with what he has done to date since being promoted.

At the Bats game, Alonso has had two really nice hits. Unfortunately they were right to the LF and RF.

Lynchburg's down 7-1. Ezequiel Infante got the start, and neglected to make the most of it. Cody Puckett has his 17th HR.

If I'm interpreting it correctly, it appears that the DSL Reds have qualified as the wildcard for the league playoffs, which begin tomorrow. It looks like it's the winners of the five divisions plus one wildcard, which the Reds earned with a 45-27 record, just ahead of the Yankees at 44-27. The Yankees won their last five games and the Reds won their last seven! The uneven schedule (probably due to rainouts) proved to be the difference.

There are 34 teams in the DSL, and the Reds actually had the third-best record. They played in the same division as the Cubs, who had the league's best record at 51-21.

I don't know much about the league, but it would seem that the Reds certainly have the starting pitching to be taken seriously. Trouble is, their ace, Abel De Los Santos, had to pitch last night in the 1-0 victory that got them into the playoffs--a game they won in spite of getting no hits.

2-0 Bats on a Francisco double. Sappelt scores.

Sounds like a case of Jay Bruce disease.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

It looks like Cozart left the Louisville lineup mid-game.

    Any word of Mesoraco's hammy?

He was the victim of a HBP in the arm, and was in a good deal of pain.

    Hopefully it's just precautionary.

    From John Fay's blog:

"–Devin Mesoraco was taken out of last night’s game after tweaking a hamstring. It’s not thought to be serious."

Tough loss for the Bats, Fisher wasn't as bad as his line reads.

Valaika picked his head up on a routine groundball with a runner on 3rd with one out. If he could've fielded it properly, the score would've still been 2-2 with 2 outs.

For my first Bats game I had a great time, I'm hoping to make it down to Louisville next weekend before callups.

Buffalo got swept in a DH today, so the Bats actually gained a game in the wild card despite their loss. Columbus is in a scoreless game after 4, so the Bats may also stay in first place.
