Turn out the lights the party's over. One of the true legends of sports broadcasting. MNF was at it's zenith when he,Cosell and Gifford were broadcasting the games. I liked him because he wasn't afraid to poke fun at Cosell when Cosell was trying to be too serious. He was the perfect foil for Cosell. Another part of my childhood gone. R.I.P. Don Meredith.

So Long Cowboy.
Next Reds manager, second shooter. --Confirmed on Redszone.
"Turn out the lights, the party's over" was the first thing that popped into my head when I learned of Dandy Don's death. A MNF football game wasn't over until Meredith began to sing that Willie Nelson tune. R.I.P.
I believe the article which JaxRed linked to was slightly misleading when it referred to Meredith's last game in a Cowboy uniform. Back in the 1960s the NFL had a "playoff bowl" matching the second place teams. After the Cowboys lost to the Browns 31-20 in the opening round of the 1968 playoffs they then faced the Vikings, who had been eliminated by the Colts. IIRC Meredith and the Cowboys defeated the Vikings and Meredith may have even been voted the game's MVP in that rather silly anit-climatic "loser's bowl."

"Hey...Dad. Wanna Have A Catch?" Kevin Costner in "Field Of Dreams."
We're number one.
RIP Dandy Don.

Don Meredith, MNF, and Lipton Sun Tea. Memories of my youth. I think I'll remember Don Meredith mostly for that feeling he gave broadcasts that football was supposed to be fun. You don't see that much in sportscasting today.
