    From Baseball America:

A righthander from Wando High in Mount Pleasant, S.C., Cisco had committed to Georgia. He has outstanding command for a high school pitcher. His arsenal consists of an 88-92 mph fastball, mid-70s curveball and a sinking changeup.

So glad the Reds paid up and got Cisco and it sounds like the kid has some talent, much better than 6th round talent.

It will be interesting how Jocketty handles the catching situation down the line with Meso and Grandal. It definitely isn't a bad thing to have two nice looking catching prospects though.

MLB really needs to move away from this slotting system. Just glancing at the Transaction list from yesterday (and it's not complete, our last two signees weren't shown), 75-100 players signed yesterday. That's a lot of players who pretty much missed an entire summer of development. It's just absurd.

I was listening ro Jim Callis and he was talking about when the new CBA is reached the owners want to move the signing deadline up a month. Sometime after the All Star break he was hinting at. As for slotting well no one is following it for the most part so it is basically out the window

Chad Rogers was close to signing about a month ago when he had that unfortunate encounter with a shark, so I guess the injury was pretty minor.

Have the team assignments been finalized with this last handful of signees?

    Better late than....

Professional debut today for Dayton. One scoreless inning in relief.

Re: Official 2010 Reds Signed Draft Picks Thread

One thing I'm noticing about this year's draft is that the Reds decided not to spend their early picks on high school guys.

Here's a list of the signed players from previous drafts who were signed as 18-year-olds or younger in the first 30 rounds:

    2010
    Wes Mugarian
    Kyle Waldrop

    2009
    Billy Hamilton
    Dan Tuttle
    Juan Silva
    Tucker Barnhart
    Jake Johnson
    Mitch Clarke

    2008
    Tyler Cline
    Carter Morrison
    Theo Bowe
    Raul Rodriguez
    JC Sulbaran

    2007
    Kyle Lotzkar
    Nefi Soto
    Evan Hildenbrandt
    Alex Oliveras
    Jordan Wideman
    Shea Snowden

    2006
    Justin Reed
    Josh Ravin
    Brandon Rice
    Tony Brown

Your list seems to be missing a few guys from this year. Tony Amezcua and Drew Cisco both went in the top 30 rounds out of high school. Those two were off the top of my head. Might be forgetting someone else.

sounds like the old surgery theory, the only shark encounter injury that is minor is one that happens to someone else

Oops. They were both 19 when they signed, which is why I missed them.

Gotcha. I figured it would be something like that, but I won't lie.... I didn't want to look up their birthdates. Its been a lazy day so far. Mondays usually are.

Mods -- Could this get a sticky, or whatever it takes to keep it at the top of the first page for periodic referencing? Thanks.
