So Leake won't be on the playoff roster? Am I understanding that right?
no he is still eligible you either have to be on the active roster or the DL on the 31st to be eligible.
But here's the thing. If we're basically shutting him down due to too many innings...do we WANT to use him in the playoffs? I don't think we do. At least not THIS year. In the next 5 years when we're in the playoffs each year, sure.
Leake would be eligible even without the 60 day considerations. It's players who are not presently on the 40 man roster who will be able to fill the two, maybe three, available slots for folks on the 60 day DL. It looks like it's just two (Arredondo and Lincoln, but I guess it's possible that Springer could move to the 60 day as well, unless some rule prohibits such a move this close to the season's end).

It could actually be any player from on or off the 40-man roster could fill the two 60-day DL spots, provided they were in the organization as of Aug. 31 and play the same position as the injured player (i.e. either pitcher or position player).
EDIT: I meant, of course, if they're added to the 40-man roster before that time. They would have to be on the roster by then to be eligible, as they wouldn't be under Major League contract.

Did Walt do the air quotes thingy when they said shoulder fatigue?
And, I am glad they did this. Leake gave this team three good months when they really needed it. I tip my fan cap to him.
I don't get the whole thing.
Why go with 11 pitchers now, after the pitching staff was beaten up in SF?
If anything, I'd expect more pitchers, not fewer pitchers.
And Lecure is still on the staff, have to wonder how long he will stay up.
September 1 is just a few days away, still I expect a pitcher to joing the club imminently.
Well, I'm not, but in regards to that...IIRC Juan Francisco & Chapman actually live together...so them going to dinner together doesn't really surprise me. And it doesn't have to have ANYTHING to do with any callups.
Yep, from Erardi's article...Chapman hangs out mostly with the Latin players, and lives with Juan Francisco, who just completed a brief stint in Cincinnati.
