Really, who was the sleeping giant?

Alot has gone on in the past 2 week since Phillips called out the Cardinals... Suspensions, Fines, Ups and Downs...

Cards came into the Nati and put a hurting on the Reds... They left Cincinnati with a 1 game lead going into series with Cubs, Brewers, SF, & Pittsburgh. At worst you'd think the Cards would come out of this rolling with atleast 7 wins if not 9...

While the Reds dealing with probably the worst 3 games set of the year.. Mentally and Physically beat up from the 3 game set with the Cards the Reds took on the Marlins, Arizona, LA, SF. Most Reds fans simply said... Lets keep it close and hope for the best... Stay within 4 games and that should be good..

Over the past 2 weeks the tide has risen and the baseball games were played...

The Reds record the past 2 weeks, 9-3

The Cards record the past 2 weeks, 4-8

Reds are currently 4 games up and 19 games over .500 and are roughly (Not sure on the correct number here) 2.5 games out of the best record in the NL.

So really, the question still looms... Who was the sleeping giant?

Lets make it a Red October....

Regardless of the lack of lasting impact, I still don't want to see anything that happened in that STL series happen in the playoffs. Let it serve as a cautionary tale, rather than a point of pride.

I know it was a generation ago, but I'd much rather see the '90 team be this team's role model. Go in humbly versus the favored opponent and let the bats and pitching arms do the talking.

I just hope we learned from what happend, and we handle the series in St. Louis better. I fully believe we swept ourselves before that series ever started.

    Agreed.

We just can't get swept again. Heck, even if the Reds only win one game in that series they'll only lose one game in the standings.
    I miss Adam Dunn.

I've seen soundbites from Larkin back in those days. The things he said were pretty darn humble. I suppose it is hard to imagine Dibble being humble.

This might be my favorite post of all time.
Jack Eliot: I'm a World Series MVP!
Skip: That was four years ago, Jack. Last season, you hit .235.
Jack Eliot: LAST SEASON, I led this team in ninth-inning doubles in the month of August!

I want to win Friday's game bad. Beating the slop throwing Garcia would be sweet, and the rest of the weekend would be big time do or die for the Cardinals.
