Heh -- my friends and I did the same thing when we were 19 one summer. The exchange rate doesn't do you any favors these days, but make sure you change your money when you go over. Most places in Windsor will take American money, but you're still on the wrong side of the rate (~ .06-.10 on the dollar).

And, just one man's opinion, but most of what you've heard about the "adult" nightlife in Canada is kinda overrated and overpriced. Stick with the bars and clubs and you should have a fun time.

Oh, and be careful. It's fairly safe up there (especially compared to Detroit), but if you're not used to bar crawling (and, at 19, I'm guessing you're not) you can get yourself in trouble by hitting it too hard too early in the night.

I went to Toronto for New Years, and the best advice I can give you is DON'T exchange your money. They'll accept American, but still charge you the same as Canadian so you're actually saving money.

I did the same thing for my 19th last year, it was a blast..we stayed near Ceasars. I got 2 speeding tickets on the way there, so don't speed!

I'm fairly certain that's having the opposite effect of saving you money. As of today, each U.S. dollar is worth $1.05 Canadian. So unless you are paying more than 5% in fees on the exchange, that's not a money saving move.

Given the fees, though, it's probably pretty close to a wash these days. The last time I was in Canada it was closer to $1.25 Canadian for each USD.

Damn, you got screwed. That's more than a 15% fee (I just checked, and the exchange rate was $1.04 or $1.05 CAD to $1 USD at that point).

If that type of fee is the norm, I guess you really are better off not exchanging.

The last time I was there -- back when it was called Casino Windsor -- the cages would do currency exchanges to Canadian for free at whatever the day's rate was. Not sure if they exchanged back to American, though. We just took our winnings and immediately hit the town that night.

It was messed up. Only thing I can think of was because I did it at the CN Tower so maybe their rate is jacked up?

I knew something wasn't right when it happend though.
