He was missing his spots, but still staying on the low end of the strike zone on a lot of those pitches. Every pitch to Jay was a borderline strike where he missed his spot and the ump penalized him for crossing Ramon up. It happens all the time, but usually not so frequently in the course of one inning. In total I counted five pitches that he was very unfortunate to not have even one go his way.
