Gomes is a killer in this lineup.

the guy is a career .260 hitter, he is hitting .260 this year. nobody else is healthy. he plays as hard as anyone in the league when he is out there. what more do you want from the guy?

Is it prophetic or ominous that when I went to the post office this morning I hit a Cardinal (a bird, not a player you bloodthirsty hoard!) on the way home? Dang thing made a kamikazi run, and got splatted. I swear it was suicide! All that was left was a few red feathers stuck to the Cincinnati Reds license plate holder......

Speaking for myself only, I think the Gomes we saw before the all-star break spoiled us - bigtime. And now that he's reverted back to his old self - below that actually, since the break - it's sort of tough to take.

No complaints here about tonight's lineup though. With Bruce and Edmonds injured, we don't have a lot of OF options. What we need is a strong outing from Cueto. At least seven innings. We broke the Chavez Ravine curse last month. Now we need to break the Coors Field curse.

I hope Narveson pitches as well against the Cards as he did against us. He was tough.

Lohse gives up a leadoff double. What happened to him? He has a 7.30 ERA and rising.
